Position Summary

The main function of this position is to serve the Region as the primary resource for professional engineering level analysis and decision-making expertise regarding all State Highway Access proposals received - from private driveway access requests to large regional development access proposals. This position will also participate in the development of statewide access management policy.

Contacts with high level public officials and with private developers and other consulting engineers are frequent. Due to the significant economic, community, and transportation system impacts of some of these access proposals, extensive knowledge with sound decision-making skills is required. For the majority of access proposals, this position will make independent decisions as to the validity and appropriateness of each - including their impact to the transportation system.

The engineer will also work closely with Region staff in the delivery of corridor preservation projects and land development project review - applying both engineering and access management analyses principles. This position, through effective use of access management tools, can preclude or defer high-cost infrastructure investments.
