Job Summary

The Access Services manager provides leadership in the library's access services department, including circulation services, resource sharing (interlibrary loan), course reserves, and stacks maintenance. They are responsible for the opening procedures of the library and the daily functions of the front circulation desk. They train and manage the access services team consisting of one full-time and one part-time access services assistant and student workers. The Access Services manager executes and manages the campus's inter-library loan operations, including EZBorrow, a resource-sharing service provided through our membership with the Partnership of Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI). They maintain accurate records of circulating materials using ALMA and tools from the Microsoft Office Suite and generate resource-sharing statistics through the inter-library loan programs (Illiad and ReShare) and circulation statistics through our integrated library system, ALMA.

The head of access services participates in the wider library profession through our consortia memberships, which include but are not limited to serving on committees and collaborating on cross-consortia projects. The professional in this position strengthens their knowledge of the library profession through regular professional development.

Essential Functions
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of the circulation desk, including but not limited to staffing, scheduling, training, creating best practices and policies, assessment and reporting, and stacks maintenance
  • Student supervisory and management duties of approximately 25-30 students, including hiring (in collaboration with university HR), training, scheduling, management, and support; engaging student staff in mentoring and assigning library projects as needed.
  • Support interlibrary loan and resource sharing (consortia lending) in coordination with Interlibrary loan and Access services assistant.
  • Coordinate and support access to library spaces, including technology and equipment, study rooms, photocopiers and scanners, and other accessibility technology.
  • Manage course reserves collection and services.
  • Provides reference services.
  • Promote and encourage equity, diversity, and inclusion within Jefferson Libraries and among the University community.
  • Some weekend hours.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on providing a great user experience; ability to clearly communicate with a wide range of patrons, including faculty, students, and staff, utilizing verbal and written mediums. Front-line service desk/customer service experience required.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; MLS/MLIS/MI from an ALA Accredited graduate program preferred

AND

Experience:
  • 1-2 years of library experience
  • 1-2 years front-line supervisory or customer service experience
  • Experience working with a library integrated system, preferably ALMA/Primo; experience working with ILL software, preferably ILLIAD and/or ReShare
