Are you an accounting professional with a passion for wildlife conservation? Consider joining the Accounting team as we support the programs carrying out the mission of the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Under close supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee, as a learner, performs the professional accounting duties in Cash Receipts Unit. This includes maintaining and reconciling database and generating reports to be used by Programs for projecting expenditures, auditing and analyzing all quarterly Fish Landing tax reports from fish businesses throughout the state on a monthly basis, reviewing verifying, and sorting all receipts and wire transfers, acting as liaison between bank reconciliation desk and regional cashiers to obtain missing deposit slips and supporting documentation, reviewing environmental filing fee documents received from counties and notifies program staff of any irregularities, and directing and resolving accounting and other inquiries from program and administrative staff.

The position is headquartered in the Natural Resources Building located in downtown Sacramento. The office is right next to Light Rail for an easy commute and features ergonomic furniture, panoramic downtown views, a free employee gym, a cafeteria and bodega, and adjacent childcare.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone. Standard office environment. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and hearings via private or public transportation. Overtime required and limited time-off during the year-end Financial Statement period. Position may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.
