The Career Services Department in the Dean's Office of the College of Engineering seeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the Adjunct Instructor position. Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Dean's office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in several degree programs supported by approximately 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees. Position Responsibilities:

This adjunct position will teach one or two in-person class sections of the 1-credit undergraduate Professional Development course for engineering students. The course curriculum, syllabus, and assignments are already developed and are used uniformly across 5 class sections. The adjunct instructor will work with the support and oversight of the primary course instructor. The course topics include resume writing, interviewing, career fair prep, teamwork skill development, engineering career pathways (presented by guest employers), mock interviews, mentoring, and other career topics. Typical class size is about 45-60 students with the support of an undergraduate TA.

Job duties will include:
-Preparing and delivering lectures in alignment with current course-level learning objectives
-Preparing and assigning homework and in-class work related to the course
-Grading assignments and assigning final course grades
-Collecting assessment data and sample student work, as needed
-Holding office hours; answering student questions; and providing timely responses to emails, as needed

Required Qualifications:

-Master's degree in Education, Business, Human Resources or related field
-Excellent written and oral communications skills

-Experience teaching at the undergraduate college level
- Experience in the professional workforce practicing the skills to be taught
