Southwest Virginia Community College ( SWCC ) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an energetic and engaging individual to fill the role of Adjunct Instructor of Natural Resources - Environmental Management & Recreation (credit-programs). This position will serve Southwest Virginia Community College’s Business, Engineering, and Industrial Technology Division. Instructional workload will be based on current demand and on a contract basis. Instruction will be conducted at the main campus, and off-campus for field trips, business tours, and experiential education activities and events. These outings and trips are an important part of the curriculum and provide a real-world element to the program. Travel may be required. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and create a student-oriented learning environment. Classes may be offered during day, evening, or weekend hours with days, dates, and times are negotiable.
Courses to be taught could include Concepts of Forestry, Forest and Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Forest Protection, Forest Mapping, Environmental Management and Ecology. Potentially, adventure-based courses in Wilderness Adventure Preparation, Basic Outdoor Skills, Program Planning, other outdoor related topics. Courses taught will be based on prior knowledge and experience.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Must have strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Successful candidate must possess a minimum of two years of work experience in biology, ecology, outdoor recreation, tourism, environmental science, natural resource management or related field.
- Successful applicant must be safety oriented and ensure all guidelines are always followed by staff and students alike.
- Extensive prior experience in adventure related activities of cycling, bike packing, kayaking, climbing/bouldering, and/or backpacking with knowledge of the outdoor industry, principles of leave no trace, risk management, program planning, and customer service.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Prior community college teaching experience
- Experience teaching online
- Experience utilizing technology in the classroom and conducting instruction in an online environment.
- Master’s degree in related field.
Some travel may be required.
