Official Position Description:

Plan, directs, & coordinates all activities of three sections (i.e., District Garage, Roadway Services, Traffic) within the Highway Management Department. Directly supervises Engineers, Transportation Managers, Technicians, & other support personnel. Coordinates section activities with other program functions & ensures management practices are properly executed. Develops engineering policies & plans projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have significant impacts on major organizational programs. Keeps abreast of new scientific methods & developments affecting the department & recommends changes in emphasis of programs or new programs warranted. Provides budgetary information to supervisor. Initiates & supervises maintenance contracts & budgets. Researches & makes recommendations to assist with long range planning for the sections. Evaluates section policies & recommends revisions & new policies. Assists in formulation of goals, strategies, & work plans for Traffic, Counties, & Garage, including stockrooms, to establish efficient practices. Performs analysis of work processes, recommends changes, & provides reports & analysis of performance measures to supervisor. Provides engineering design services for Traffic, Garage, Counties, & coordinates district-wide work items (e.g., paving, salt & liquids, culverts).

Independently generates & signs name to external correspondence (e.g., inquiries, investigations, acknowledgments) to consultants, governmental units, private industries & the general public on matters related to sections activities. Operates state vehicle in order to conduct field inspections, meet with officials to present department's position & offer recommendations of acceptable alternatives where established policy does not apply. Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor (e.g., serves on various internal &/or external committees; represents supervisor at various meetings; attends relevant training sessions).

Qualifications

3 yrs. exp. in administrative, management or supervisory position.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in business or public administration or closely related area; 12 mos. exp. in business or public administration.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
