Duties

Duties for the Administrative Support Specialist, GS-0301-12 include but not limited to:
  • Serving as liaison with the human resources office; analyzing and recommending the best utilization of human resources. Coordinating personnel actions; maintaining human resources-related records such as performance ratings, position descriptions, awards and OI security clearances.
  • Receiving a variety of special project assignments requiring knowledge of the data system to successfully complete assignments. Special project requests require retrieval of data from the OI databases, analyzing and summarizing the information into narrative or statistical format for management's use.
  • Interpreting OI administrative and management policies, procedures, and systems and develops policies and procedures to satisfy the needs of the office.
  • Works independently to resolve inquiries from employees on administrative issues such as leave discrepancies, and personnel related matters.
  • Keeps managers informed of ongoing personnel actions.
  • Participates in internal inspections to ensure compliance with the Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act of 1982 (FMFIA) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-123, Management's Responsibility for Internal Control.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. GS-12: For the GS-12 applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate: Experience (1) Planning, developing and implementing policies and procedures concerning administrative support programs; and (2) Reviewing personnel and administration data; and (3) Providing administrative support to an organization (e.g., reviewing and initiating human resource actions, performance management tasks, submitting applications for high-level security clearances, and awards processing.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume should include the dates of all qualifying experience (from month/year to month/year) and the number of hours worked/volunteered per week.

Additional information

Recruitment Incentives: Payment for relocation expenses will not be authorized for this position. A recruitment bonus will not be offered. Repayment of student loans are not offered. Private sector work experience will not be approved as credit for your Annual Leave accrual.
