This opening is for a dynamic Admissions/Intake Registered Nurse (Full-Time) (shift: Monday - Friday: 2pm-10pm).

The Admissions/Intake RN, under the supervision of the Intake Director, provides telephonic and in-person risk assessments to assist the physician in identification of appropriate level of care for potential patients. The Intake RN is in contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients, as well as intake and unit staff. The Intake RN works with the Business Office regarding patient financial data and verification and prior authorization of insurance benefits as needed, as well as with the UR Department for the certification of patients admitted.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Receives all inquiry calls and responds to requests for information and assessments rapidly and ensures relevant report is obtained and passed on to receiving unit/physician.
  • Expert in documentation, communication, teamwork and customer service. Advocates for internal and external customers including the client, family, physician, medical facility, behavioral healthcare facility and managed care organizations.
  • Liaisons with physicians, psychiatrist, other facilities and managed care organizations to promote optimal use of the continuum of care for each individual transferred.
  • Enters relevant information into EMR for patients arriving on shift requiring admission. This includes, but is not limited to order entry for Telephone orders given by admitting physician and medication entry.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) Job Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years in psychiatric/mental health treatment programs and/or substance abuse, including experience in intake/admissions and managed care preferred. Knowledge of psychiatric behavioral health diagnostic criteria, quality assessment skills, inluding listening and writing legibly, ability to provide customer service in a caring way, even in high stress environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of COBRA/EMTALA laws.
  • Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the Mississippi State Board of Nursing.
  • Additional Requirements: CPR certification, Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation training prior to orientation or during orientation week.
