Position Summary:
The Advanced ED Tech provides comprehensive, compassionate and quality care for patients in the Emergency Department. Care is provided in conjunction with, and under the direction of the ED nurse and/ or ED physician. Promotes a positive image of Carle Health. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Requires completion of Paramedic program and IL Paramedic license.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
H.S. Diploma/GED

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (AHA) within 1 year and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (AHA) within 1 year and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Successfully test into the Carle Health EMS system
  • Completion of CNA coursework w/in past 24 months, OR Successfull completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program, OR Worked as a CNA w/in past 24 months, OR Successful completion of at least one semester of nursing clinical experiences, OR Documented relevant medical military training.

Essential Functions:
  • CLINICAL EXCELLENCE/PATIENT CAREAdministers care to ill or injured patients in the hospital environment according to established standards of care, protocols and/ or physician orders under the direction of the ED nurse and / or ED physician within Carle Health's policies, legal limitations, and Advanced ED Tech scope of practice. Completes documentation to assure an accurate record of patient's care.Demonstrates professional development by keeping abreast of current practice standards in emergency medical services, as well as the hospital setting. Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psycho/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. Interacts effectively, confidentially, and cooperatively with patient, families, physicians, and pre-hospital, and hospital personnel regarding patient care. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the ED team by balancing team and individual responsibilities, being objective and open to other's view, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest. Maintains ED equipment and supplies in state of readiness. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. Completes required documentation as appropriate, including patient chart and event reports.Demonstrates professional accountability for own practice as evidenced through seeking resources and continued self-development.Demonstrates technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoots when problems arise.Shares clinical knowledge through informal teaching and in response to the learning needs of others.Demonstrates a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues (as applicable).Demonstrates skills to promote patient and staff safety through appropriate use of lift equipment (as applicable).Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.Performs patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Advanced Practice Nurse's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.
