Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Environmental Management's Safe Drinking Water Program is accepting applications for 2 positions: a Lead Service Line Inventory and Removal Specialist and a Lead and Copper Monitoring Coordinator to be responsible for Safe Drinking Water program under the Safe Drinking Water Act, for all community and non ‐ transient noncommunity public water systems (PWS).

Position Locations:
  • Lead Service Line Inventory and Removal Specialist position will be headquartered in our central office in Madison, WI.
  • Lead and Copper Monitoring Coordinator position may be headquartered in any DNR Service Center in WI, depending on space availability and the location of the selected candidate.
This recruitment may be used for any similar vacancies that become available in the near future.

Remote work will be available, after the initial onboarding period. The exact amount is based on program need and supervisor discretion .

Position Summary

Lead Service Line Inventory and Removal Specialist (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced): The principal function of this position is to coordinate and assist in the implementation of portions of the state Safe Drinking Water program, specifically the Lead and Copper Rule under the Safe Drinking Water Act, for all community and non-transient noncommunity public water systems (PWS), particularly as related to service line inventory requirements and lead service line replacement activities.

Lead and Copper Monitoring Coordinator (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced): The principal function of this position is to coordinate and lead the implementation of portions of the state Safe Drinking Water program, specifically monitoring requirements of the Lead and Copper Rule under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) for all community and non-transient noncommunity public water systems. Activities include administration and coordination of all of the following requirements: monitoring site plans; monitoring frequency; monitoring data reporting; water quality parameters; monitoring in schools and childcare facilities; monitoring associated with site assessment requirements for tap sample sites with lead results that exceed 0.010 mg; statewide and interdepartmental coordination of program activities; development of guidance, training and other materials needed to communicate and administer requirements; and coordination with the data team as necessary regarding data system needs and design enhancements.

Salary Information

Lead Service Line Inventory and Removal Specialist (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced), Lead and Copper Monitoring Coordinator (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced) starting salary is between $34.00 - $41.00 / hour ($70,720.00 and $85,280.00) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.

The classification of both the Lead Service Line Inventory and Removal Specialist and the Lead and Copper Monitoring Coordinator, positions is Water Supply Specialist - Advanced , which is in schedule-range 15 - 03. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required for meetings and training.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:
  • Experience communicating technical topics to a variety of audiences, including technical writing, verbal communication, and visual materials (e.g power point presentations, infographics, etc).
  • Experience in the management and coordination of large datasets including the use of spreadsheets and databases (such as excel, oracle or similar).
  • Experience interpreting and applying state or federal statues and/or administrative codes related to the environment, natural resources, or public health.
  • College level coursework in chemistry, geology, hydrogeology, and/or public health or comparable professional work experience.
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
  • Experience developing, updating and/or reviewing lead and copper monitoring site plans.
  • Experience with service line material inventories and/or lead service line replacement.
  • Experience with Safe Drinking Water Act water quality monitoring requirements or with water quality monitoring in schools or childcare facilities.
