JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Aide - Pre-K (Auxillary Teacher - Grant Funded)
REPORTS TO: Principal and P-K Teacher
JOB GOAL: To assist the Pre-K teacher in achieving identified instructional/behavioral objectives and to help students take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of college-level education; Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate preferred
- An earned Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least nine (9) credit hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education and Child Development
- Prior experience working with early childhood students preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning
- Physically able to participate in restraint training and participate in restraint of a student, if needed
- Physically able to carry out tasks requiring moderate physical exertion
- Ability to use current technology
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, local law, and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
- Perform tasks related to classroom instruction while under the supervision of a certified teacher
- Assist early childhood students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present and/or reinforce learning concepts.
- Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher
- Discern stages of child development/age-appropriate activities
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use
- Monitor individual students, classrooms, library, playground activities, etc., to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
- Help with extra duties related to the supervision of students (lunch periods, bus duties, assemblies, field trips, etc.)
- Adhere to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
