This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1368000 and is part of the NM 150th SOW Maintenance Group, National Guard.

Duties

(1) Troubleshoots, inspects, overhauls, maintains, and repairs off-equipment weapons control systems and associated equipment. Analyzes performance and isolates malfunctions of on- and/or off-equipment fire control/weapons delivery systems. Operates computerized missile systems to determine operational effectiveness, and analyzes missile system malfunctions, and tracking malfunctions. Isolates faults utilizing technical data, computerized test equipment and digital multimeters. Determines extent of component malfunctions and repairs. Disassembles, assembles, repairs, or replaces mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic mechanisms of the weapons launch and gun systems, utilizing digital electronic weapons system test sets and other associated equipment. Determines scope of repairs needed to bring weapons systems to operational status. Monitors system/equipment performance to detect recurring malfunctions.

(2) Loads/unloads, positions, and safeties air munitions using applicable technical data and handling equipment. Tests suspension, launch, and release systems to ensure proper manual/electrical release on equipment. Analyzes on-equipment malfunctions and repairs systems. Performs aircraft weapons systems functional checks utilizing electronic testing equipment and special tools. Tests electronic circuitry for normal operation of the weapons systems and absence of stray electrical power.

(3) Conducts off-equipment troubleshooting and functional checks of integrated weapons control systems to ensure proper manual/electrical release and fire sequence. Performs bench checks to determine extent of repair needed. Accomplishes Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) and modifications of components and tests for proper operation. Performs scheduled and unscheduled in-use/in storage inspections and maintenance of on/off equipment components such as launchers, bomb racks, pylons, launcher adapters, gun systems, and handling equipment. Inspects equipment for serviceability and proper installation on aircraft of components such as suspension devices, launchers, bomb racks and pylons. Performs scheduled/unscheduled inspections and maintenance of ammunition loading system(UNAL/ALS). Tests, inspects, repairs, maintains, and modifies ammunition loading system. Maintains applicable forms and historical records.

(4) Maintains and reviews publication files of applicable technical orders, regulations, manuals, and local directives. Recommends methods to improve maintenance procedures and equipment. Initiates unsatisfactory equipment and technical order deficiency reports. May be required to serve as a trainer for section personnel, production or quality assurance inspector and bench stock monitor for the work center.

(5) Adjusts, installs, and removes cartridges and squibs for tanks and pylons and chaff/flare systems. Adjusts and installs fuzing devices in explosive air munitions. Removes and installs safing devices on munitions and gun systems. Operates Munitions Maintenance Handling Equipment (MMHE) and loading equipment.

(6) Operates fault detection and digital test equipment. Evaluates pilot trouble reports to determine validity and necessary repair actions. May be required to maintain certification as a weapons load crew chief or load crew member.

(7) May be required to perform additional duties such as launch/recovery, aircraft servicing, fire fighting, crash rescue duty, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters.

(8) May be required to inspect, troubleshoot, test, and maintain the Aerial Gunnery Target System. Analyzes, isolates and repairs off equipment malfunctions of Aerial Gunnery Target Systems, target sets, digital control displays, and associated equipment utilizing digital electronic test equipment and specialized tools. Services Aerial Gunnery Target System with gaseous nitrogen.

(9) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • This is an indefinite position not to exceed 4 years.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E-5 and below)

Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC: 2W1X1

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-05 - Must have 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to learn procedures used to service, repair and maintain aircraft ordnance equipment. Experience which has demonstrated an ability to recognize various defects of equipment. Experience in the use of common hand tools. Experience showing the ability to follow written instruction.

WG-08 - Must have 12 months experience or training in repair and installation of ordnance equipment and components such as launchers, pylons, bomb racks and actuators. Experience which required the ability to diagnose malfunctions. Experience in hand tools and a limited number of measuring instruments. Experience in the use of a variety of test equipment. Experience interpreting and applying a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials.

???????WG-10- Must have 18 months experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification, repair and installation of ordnance systems. Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedy where complex relationships exist. Experience in hand tools and a limited number of measuring equipment. Experience in the use of a variety of test equipment. Experience in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.
