Duties

As a AIRCRAFT PILOT, GS-2181-12, you will pilot a variety of aircraft in support of the AASF or AVCRAD logistical and operations missions. This position is located in an Army National Guard (ARNG)Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD).

(1) Pilots a variety of fixed wing twin engine airplanes and utility helicopters to transport passengers and cargo to and from a variety of points. Operates aircraft with short takeoff and landing capability, generally in good or fair weather conditions, but may include all types of weather, day and night over terrain such as forests, marshlands, mountain ranges, and open seas. Flights are to modern airports with paved runways, with navigational aids, good landing facilities and some unimproved or tactical landing pads and strips. Participates in all-weather search and rescue operations as required. Serves as a member of boards pertaining to aviation accidents, flight evaluation, collateral investigations,standardization and federal recognition.

(2) Performs maintenance operation checks (MOCs) and limited and general test flights of aircraft to ensure air worthiness upon completion of extensive disassembly for maintenance, repair or replacement of components or aircraft systems. Performs general or limited test flights of aircraft when ground diagnostic tests cannot determine the safe and/or proper functioning of aircraft components or systems. Performs acceptance test flights of new aircraft when required.

(3) Performs other duties as assigned.

Military Grades: CW3-CW4

SUPERVISOR HIGHLY DESIRES UH-60 A/L PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) QUALIFIED WITH AT LEAST 50 HOURS OF UH-60 A/L PIC TIME.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES:

1. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

3. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

OTHER QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Prior to appointment, an applicant's military medical record must indicate a completed and current medical physical, flight physical, medical profile, and completed/cleared drug test.

2. Possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles, for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

3. Qualify to operate government motor vehicles and vehicular equipment for "Maintenance Purposes Only" according to Army Vehicle Maintenance Operations Directives.

4. Wear of the military uniform is MANDATORY.

Qualifications

This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities). Must have a competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts. Applicants should have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.

WARRANT OFFICERS: Must have at least 24 months experience s in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Experienced in reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information. Experienced in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings. Experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments. Experienced in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance. Competent in conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders. Knowledge is required in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures. Experienced in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies, regulations, and directives.

NOTES TO CANDIDATES:

a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor.

Education

Army National Guard Warrant Officer Positions

Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

1. Must have the appropriate security clearance:

a. In regard to the aviator position's Series GS 2181 and the DoD criteria for the technician position's compatible military skill classification security clearance requirements. NOTE: Refer to the military services' specific classification directives for the military skills' required security clearance levels;

OR

b. Awarded a current Single Scope Background Investigation according to Army or Air Force Personnel Security Program Management Directives. Award of entry level to the technician position's compatible military skill, without a completed SSBI, is authorized provided an interim Top Secret security clearance was granted. NOTE: Refer to the military service specific directives for various authorized interim clearance levels.

2. No record of claustrophobia or claustrophobic tendencies.

3. To maintain the position - The incumbent must have a current Network License according to Army or Air Force Directives, Licensing Network Users and Certifying Network Professionals.

4. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

5. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.
