DESCRIPTION

Perform journey level electrical work in connection with maintenance testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, inspecting, modifying and overhaul of campus alarm, control and electrical systems, including equipment and components such as: fire alarm and sprinkler systems, ventilation and lighting control systems, interior communication and signaling devices and systems, and campus cable system for transmission of associated supervisory data control signals. Performs all required alarm system tests and maintenance and keeps accurate testing and system records. May instruct unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance workers. Assigned to cover all campus facilities performing maintenance work dispatched by Customer Service Center, Maintenance Superintendents, Central Plant, or Campus Police.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Journey level experience and thorough and working knowledge of: nominal voltage electrical systems, alarms and electronic control systems, low-voltage and communication systems, fire sprinkler systems, pump systems and controls, signaling systems and signal transmission systems.
  • Thorough and working knowledge of: electric motors and motor controllers, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), lighting controllers, metering systems, mechanical and electrical components of ventilation systems and renovations and alterations of electrical systems and voltage distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience reading and interpreting blueprints, as-builts, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, schematics diagrams and operating manuals, including knowledge to perform mathematics typically used in the trade.
  • Thorough and working knowledge with experience in maintenance and repair procedures including preventive maintenance, breakdown repair, inspection and troubleshooting, installation and overhauling systems, components, fixtures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) testing frequencies, procedures, and forms.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and regulations and experience working with Title 19, Title 8 and National and State Fire Code requirements.
  • Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of electrical construction, alarm systems installation, renovations and modifications.
  • Demonstrated skill to effectively work with assigned personnel in a team or individual environment, effectively use independent judgment with demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated skill to communicate effectively to persons at all levels including division supervisors, staff and campus community.
  • Skills to read, write and follow verbal, written or electronic instructions.
  • Extensive experience working in a service-oriented environment and nurturing customer relationships through proactive service skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload with minimal supervision and work effectively in the field with minimal supervision.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • DOJ/FBI background and DMV checks and clearance required prior to hire.
  • Must possess and maintain valid California Driver license and participate in DMV Pull Program.
  • May be required to work scheduled shifts including nights and weekends.
  • May be required to work overtime as needed.
  • Required to respond to off-hour emergencies.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds and lifts up to two stories high, as well as in confined spaces, such as vaults, tunnels, manholes and crawl spaces both overhead and underneath floors.
  • Ability to carry tools and walk to various locations.
  • Must be physically able to perform essential functions of the position.
Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $101,769 - $101,769 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $48.74 - $48.74

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
