Job Summary To provide quality pharmaceutical services to the patients, employees and medical staff of UCDHS. The Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, distribution, drug information, and precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participating in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and work groups and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships. This position will mostly be working in the Pharmacy Run Prescription Renewal Clinic and will also provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
  • Clinical pharmacy training, including familiarity with medical terminology, lab data and optimal drug therapy.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Computer skills that facilitate clinical patient data medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and educate patients about their medication therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain needed information from a patient or patient's chart to create medication management plans.
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information with exceptional interpersonal skills to healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to triage.
  • Knowledge of current ambulatory care guidelines (i.e. ACC/AHA, JNC, ADA, GINA, GOLD).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify medication-related problems in patients, communicate them to a patient's physician and offer recommendations.
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
  • Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant BPS Certification.
  • Experience in ambulatory care pharmacy practice setting.
  • Completion of Pharmacy Practice PGY-1 Residency.
  • PGY-2 Pharmacy Practice or Specialty Residency.
  • Prior experience precepting and evaluating residents and students.
  • 2 years of medication therapy management experience and 3 years of UCDH retail pharmacy experience.
  • Ability to navigate third party reimbursement programs.


Department Description

The Pharmacy Refil Center Department provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services (prescriptions, unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical infusion pumps and teaching) throughout the Medical Center complex 24 hours per day. The Department is comprised of three inpatient and six outpatient pharmacies, a sterile production lab and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution.
