Job Duties

Are you knowledgeable of computer operations, GIS, CAD, GPS, and other systems? Do you have experience using historical mapping data and records to solve problems? Do you enjoy working hands-on? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, Mined Land Repurposing program, is seeking an AML Mapping/Eligibility Specialist to administer the approved statewide Abandoned Mine Land Program according to the regulations authorized by the Office of Surface Mining, Federal Assistance Manuel, Virginia State Reclamation Plan, and Virginia Energy Strategic Operational plan. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing project eligibility and mapping research to assist staff with Abandoned Mine Land, AMLER, BIL, bond forfeiture, and watershed restoration projects to ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position:
• Considerable knowledge of computer operations, spatial database design and operation, computer aided design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), remote sensing technologies and engineering principles and practices utilized by the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) staff
• Demonstrated ability to use historical mapping data and records to produce research documents.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to analyze and communicate information clearly and concisely
• Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing workload
• Ability to collaborate and build inclusiveness within a team
• The candidate should also be skilled in 4-wheel drive vehicle operation and basic maintenance in accordance with agency guidelines and procedures
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record

This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. The individual accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test with successful references as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.

Additional Considerations

• Registration or certification is desirable
• Experience in using spatial data, application of regulations and engineering principles, preferably in the mineral extraction industry is desirable
