Job Summary:

The Quality & Patient Safety - Business Analyst is accountable for developing, maintaining, and interpreting clinical, business, and financial information for Quality & Patient Safety operations. The incumbent of this position coordinates the capture, analysis, and reporting of pertinent clinical and financial data needed to ensure clinical provider member accountability, care quality improvement and program cost control. The Business Analyst regularly monitors and presents comparative information to various hospital stakeholders. Additionally, the incumbent also uses proven management techniques to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to perform process re-engineering or implement new care redesign systems, while remaining in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations governing the privacy and of patients' protected health information.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares meaningful and actionable project data, performance reports and visual presentations for Mary Washington Health Alliance leadership.
  • Leverages internal, third party, and publicly available data to create comparative benchmarks for organizational metrics.
  • Supports the preparation of capital budgets, and provides research information for operational budgets, including cost-benefit analysis for investments in new systems or technologies. Develops, tracks, and interprets monthly performance drivers for each of the specialty divisions, and distributes, discusses, and interprets the results with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with all other hospital and/or health system departments as necessary, including but not limited to: Revenue Cycle, General Accounting, Materials Management, Human Resources, Information Services, Biomedical Engineering, and all necessary committees as may be assigned.
  • Responsible for the establishment, modification, and ongoing support for appropriate clinical outcome and financial performance goals and benchmarks.
  • Works with clinical and administrative staff in ensuring the timely receipt, accurate computation, and compilation of reporting data necessary to meet the established goals.
  • Develops data models, data import tools and database querying functionality pertinent to report configuration and performs QA validation of configuration and report output.
  • Trouble-shoots and resolves data processing problems.
  • Provides documentation of all programs, systems, and enhancements to ensure continuity of analytics program maintenance, including program logic flow charts, record layouts, and programming narratives.
  • Develops system testing plans and coordinates the execution of use case scenario testing including rules, workflows, interfaces, and output reports.
  • Facilitates/Leads process improvement teams as necessary.
  • Performs other duties assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Business, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Healthcare Administration or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of experience in analyzing, modeling, trending, and forecasting clinical and/or financial data preferred.
  • Certification and/or experience with developing SQL queries, statistical software, Power BI, or Tableau preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint required.
  • Experience with systems change-control, data governance, systems patch management, and systems testing procedures preferred.
  • Conversant in process improvement methodologies and state-of-the-art management theory preferred.
