Summary

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Medical Director of the Anatomy Education Core (AEC) & Willed Body Program (WBP). This is a full-time faculty position in the Office of the Senior Dean with a Senior Faculty appointment (Associate/Professor, dependent on qualifications) offered in the Department of Education, Innovation & Technology. The candidate is required to conduct scholarly activities, such as educational research projects for promotion. The candidate is also required to participate in the activities, such as educational training programs, held by the department of EIT. The Anatomy Education Core and the Willed Body Program work with the School of Medicine (UME and GME), both Houston and Temple campuses, and the School of Health Professions (Houston campus). The individual will have leadership experience in administration, having led faculty and staff teams, prepared budgets, medical education and health professions pedagogy, administration of educational programs, administration of a willed body program, and in teaching anatomical science subjects including gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy.

Job Duties

The successful applicant will report directly to the Senior Dean, School of Medicine and School of Health Professions of BCM and will have a current and working knowledge of anatomy teaching trends nationally and be expected to provide administrative leadership, oversight and service in the following areas:

Recruitment and direct supervision of:

All anatomy teaching faculty in the School of Medicine (Houston and Temple campuses) and the School of Health Professions (Houston campus) Teaching assistants in the anatomical sciences.

• Liaison and coordination of all anatomy educational needs in the School of Medicine (UME and GME) Houston campus. School of Health Professions in Houston campus. BCM Temple, Texas regional campus.

• Didactic teaching in the School of Medicine and the School of Health Professions including laboratories, in gross anatomy and in one or all subjects of histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy.

• Reporting the state of all anatomy education programs to the respective curriculum committees in the School of Medicine and the School of Health Professions as well as institutional compliance committees.

• Budget preparation and management.

• Assignment and scheduling of anatomy teaching spaces for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME), including medical and health profession students, residents, and outside vendors.

• Oversight of the BCM Willed Body Program, including institutional policy development, compliance with standard operating procedures, and accreditation requirements of the State of Texas.

• Oversight of and coordination with the Executive Director of the BCM Anatomy Education Core (AEC) & Willed Body Program (WBP).

Additional Job Duties

Partner with the Executive Director of the Willed Body Program in:

• Identifying the unique needs of each learner group so educational opportunities are maximized.
• Developing and annually reviewing budgets, lab procedures, college policies as they relate to anatomical specimen procurement and use in Baylor College of Medicine facilities.
• Assist in communicating, orientation and enforcing established policies and procedures to all facility users (faculty, staff, and trainee groups as well as vendors).
• Annual review of perpetual improvement planning for both short term and long-term goals including Information technology, virtual education modality, human specimen handling, and laboratory improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent)
• Five full years' experience in teaching medical or health professional students' human gross anatomy cadaveric lab dissections involving all systems and body regions.
