The Anesthesia Coordinator will be a member of the perioperative team and will coordinate all anesthesia technical support activities in all locations. The Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate the job activities of the resource technicians and specialists in the surgical department in accordance with standard policies and procedures. Will be responsible to assist anesthesiologists, nursing and other staff in the surgical setting as well as registered anesthesia nurses, anesthesia assistants, and their trainees. The Coordinator will have advanced training, experience, knowledge, and leadership abilities in anesthesia and perioperative services.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of the life sciences as normally acquired through successful completion of an Associate's Degree in an allied health or life science discipline preferred or equivalent experience. Understanding of medical terminology as attained through allied health or medical training, completion of medical terminology course, or college level anatomy and physiology. .

Minimum Work Experience
5 years At least 5-7 years in an Anesthesia Technician position or equivalent. Experience as a Certified Anesthesia Technician II for 24 months. At least two years of coordinating experience as an anesthesia technician. .

Required Licenses and Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS)
ASATT certification. .

Functional Accountabilities
Coordination/ Customer Support
  • Perform assessments as necessary to ensure needs are met, by coordinating and assisting in all anesthesia related resource technician specialist support of the anesthesiology department.
  • Function as a resource and perform Resource Technician Duties, if needed.
  • Coordinate shift assignments for staff and ensure completion; Ensure proper 24/7 coverage of the OR's even during periods of short staffing, and scheduled breaks.
  • Review daily, nightly, and weekend checklist and stocking of all locations.
  • Facilitate and ensure anesthesia technicians are available at the beginning and end of procedures to assist anesthesiologists with NEURO, CRANI, CARDIAC, NEONATES, and PICU patients.
  • Anticipate and respond to customer needs; follow up until needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with the OR team, patients, and families with excellent written and verbal skills; Provide feedback and status update to supervisor and peers; Respond to questions from patient, families, and others in a prompt, courteous, positive, and knowledgeable manner and/or refer them to appropriate personnel.
Education
  • Facilitate learning opportunities for all staff and ensure staff educational needs are met.
  • Assist to train and educate new staff with the Anesthesia Technician Specialist program and the Resource Assistants.
  • Verify and collaborate with the Supervisor that Joint Commission standards are being met: IV bags dated and timed, expired products replaced, carts locked at end of day, and emergency carts always ready.
  • Coordinate with the Supervisor to provide "in-services" retraining, and retesting as indicated.
  • Teach and mentor for the ASATT exam and rotating AT fellows in training.
  • Introduce new products, equipment, and changing work practices.
Leadership
  • Ensures staff adherence to unit/hospital policies.

  • Ensure staff maintain the workroom as an effective and clean work space and speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Work with the Director of Anesthesia Support Services, RTS Supervisor and Biomedical Engineering regarding stock outs, product defects, and equipment status and return.
  • Identify equipment and complex case cart improvements and implements a plan of action to optimize delivery of patient care.
  • Oversee to monitor and the documentation of anesthesia equipment, and specialty carts for safety, quality control, preventative maintenance and cleanliness while ensuring that the standards of infection control are met.
  • Validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.
  • Promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers.
  • Use resources efficiently.
  • Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance.
