This is an entry job or temporary position for new hires joining the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
  • Obtains work assignments from supervisor, contacts person requesting repairs and determine type of repairs required.
  • Assists in maintaining buildings, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, and other related maintenance activities, which includes, but is not limited to washing windows.
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs to building fixtures, removes broken glass and replaces it with a new panes, performs minor plumbing repairs, cleans electrical fixtures and replaces bulbs, and performs touch-up painting.
  • Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.
  • Performs physical labor to move boxes, or furniture.
  • Periodically inventories supplies and equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
  • High school or equivalent certification.
  • Physical fitness to perform maintenance and heavy lifting assignments up to 100 pounds.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience to perform light building maintenance.
  • Previous background should include demonstrated ability to deal with the general public.
  • Must be able to work independently, and must be willing to work shifts that vary from day to night and operate seven days a week.
  • The ability to speak and understand the Inupiaq language is important and preferred.
