Job Summary
You will work with a highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative team involved in clinical/epidemiological research using big data, based in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan's Medical School and Michigan Medicine. The team has both a national and international reputation.
The team works from the Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (KECC), a multidisciplinary research center, housed in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. The team is affiliated with the UM School of Medicine and Michigan Medicine (the Health System), the Institute of Health Policy and Innovation (IHPI), and the UM School of Public Health.
The main areas of focus are in the areas of health services and clinical research, implementation science and quality improvement with a focus on kidney disease but also on other chronic diseases as well as global health. The team is funded by a federal contract for national kidney disease surveillance and prevention. For the right candidate, there is potential to be involved in research projects, grant applications and research designed to impact both policy and clinical practice.

Responsibilities*
The candidate will serve as a programmer-analyst, mentored by the lead programmer/analyst and under the overall supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Team Director and senior research faculty. The candidate will work with large and complex data sets typically used based on project needs (for example, Medicare, Medicaid, Department of Veterans Health Administration, Optum, and NHANES, etc. In addition to data preparation and data analyses under guidance of the Lead Programmer-Analyst and Study PI(s), Epidemiologists and Biostatisticians, the candidate will also serve as liaison between the data team and the website teams to ensure accurate depiction of findings on the project website. The candidate will assist other team members collaboratively as needed in data preparation for analyses and development of research manuscripts. The candidate will help with grant submissions as needed and the team's development of Project Reports and other Deliverables. As required, they will also help analyze new data sources and assist the PI and Team in understanding them for their potential value.

Required Qualifications*
Senior level minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 5 to 7 years of systems analysis/programming in a business environment.
Intermediate level minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 3 to 5 years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment.
Extensive knowledge and experience programming in SAS and R is required.
Desired Qualifications*
- The ideal candidate will have masters degree in Biostatistics OR Epidemiology (MS, MPH or equivalent), or similar field (e.g., Health Informatics/Computer Science). At least 3 years (for the intermediate position), or 5 years (for the senior classification) of experience including work experience as graduate student research assistant during school or experience after graduation.
- Experience in study design and analysis, including expertise with statistical modeling such as Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Generalized Linear Model, Survival analysis, etc.
- Experience with other programing languages, such as SAS, R, SQL, Tableau
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
- Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
