La Rabida Children's Hospital is hiring a full-time Application Support and Server Engineer for our Information Services Department in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the CIO, the server engineer is responsible for implementing, testing, optimization, maintaining, and supporting, network equipment and connections, servers, desktop computers, peripherals, remote access equipment, laptops. The serer engineer maintains servers as well as personal computer based operating systems software, applications software, and a variety of hardware devices. The server engineer will also function as the system administrator to ensure access to all application systems. Monitors and maintains the efficiency of our software applications. Troubleshoot software applications to resolve all user issues quickly and optimally.

Essential Functions

Computer Equipment configuration, setup installation
  • Install, maintain, and support PC based applications software (MS Office, Windows, etc.)
  • Configure, install, and test, PC upgrades to ensure that PCs perform adequately.
  • Provide technical support for office moves requiring equipment moves, rewriting, and reconfiguration.
  • Configure, test and configure, procure, install, test, and support personal computers and related equipment, maintain laptop computers. Install, test, and train uses in the use of remote connectivity software and procedures.
Server Support
  • Configure, procure, install, test, and support file and application servers (Exchange, Intranet, etc.) and related equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and support server environment (Windows Server, Active Directory, etc. ).
  • Work as LAN administrator updating and upgrading network based applications.
  • Implement and test of server based software upgrades.
  • Perform operating system and application software upgrades for server including virtualization.
  • Configure, install, test, and support data communication devices related to server use and operation.
  • Responsible for systems back-up, data integrity, and disaster recovery.
  • Provide support for server-based storage (SAN).
  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of Exchange services (email).
  • Ensure virus protection is maintained in all servers and desktops.
  • Responsible for maintenance of intranet.
  • Enhance professional growth by attending in-services, educational programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Assist with projects as they relate to servers and peripheral upgrades and implementations.

User Support
  • Provide level-two Help Desk support for problem calls from end users. Resolve hardware and software problems, document resolutions through problem tracking system.
  • Provide basic PC based software support and training to end-users.
  • Provide technical support to satellite locations.
  • Participate in meetings and on committees as directed by management.
Application Support
  • Performing analyses on software application functionality and suggesting improvements
  • Ensuring effective front-end and back-end functionality of applications
  • Consulting with the 3rd party teams and internal users to improve application performance
  • Providing front-end support to clients and colleagues in other departments
  • Establishing the root causes of application errors
Additional Functions
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Competency Assessments
  • Maintains required job skills, professional competencies, current licensure, certification and ongoing education required of job, as applicable.
What we need from you:
  • Education: Bachelor degree in computer science and (4) years work experience preferred. Associates degree in IT related area of study and 5-7 years work experience required.
  • Related Work Experience: Four or more years maintaining and supporting Microsoft server environments and system administration with Active Directory, Serer 20xx, Exchange and related products and tools.
  • Experienced in backup, restore, and disaster recovery. Knowledge of PC imaging and application packaging.
  • Experience maintaining PC environments and problem resolution under Microsoft Windows and Office suites.
  • Licensure / Certification: CompTia Network+, A+, Kronos Systems, Microsoft and/or VMware Certification
  • Must possess keen interpersonal communication skills to interact with users, customers, and vendors.
