Join our Amazon Private Brands Selection Guidance organization in building science and tech solutions at scale to delight our customers with products across our leading private brands such as Amazon Basics, Amazon Essentials, and by Amazon.

The Selection Guidance team applies Generative AI, Machine Learning, Statistics, and Economics solutions to drive our private brands product assortment, strategic business decisions, and product inputs such as title, price, merchandising and ordering. We are an interdisciplinary team of Scientists, Economists, Engineers, and Product Managers incubating and building day one solutions using cutting-edge technology, to solve some of the toughest business problems at Amazon.

As an Applied Science Manager you will lead a cross functional team of scientists and engineers to develop science products and internal tooling to drive new product development decisions and interventions to improve existing products. Current research areas include entity resolution, generative AI, large language models, and product substitutes. You will lead your team to transform ambiguous business problems into science research and solutions, drive rapid prototypes, and develop production systems with high operational excellence.

Key job responsibilities

- Partner with business stakeholders and product managers to define APB strategy and frame ambiguous business problems as science problems and solutions.

- Lead a group of scientists and engineers to deliver solutions utilizing ML and other advanced algorithms to solve business problems.

- Advance team's engineering craftsmanship and drive continued scientific innovation as a thought leader and practitioner.

- Partner with product managers to develop science and engineering roadmap, run sprint planning planning, and foster cross-team collaboration to execute complex projects.

- Hire and develop top talent, provide technical and career development guidance to both scientists and engineers in the organization.

- Leverage industry best practices to establish repeatable applied science practices, principles & processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience

- 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience

- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics

- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field

- Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
