The vision of the Digital Discovery team is to make it easy for customers to discover Digital content at the right time (in their shopping journey), place (shopping page and shopping/engagement surface), and value (personalized promotions or bundles).

Our strategy is to drive discoverability of Digital products by improving quality of recommendation decisions we make for customers. We do this by: 1) Drive new discovery mechanisms for Digital (cross-digital and devices with subscription) which are personalized, lifecycle based CX interventions, and, 2) Build foundational products that accelerate Digital experimentation and success. We measure success with high visibility goals around subscription acquisition and building ML frameworks for impact valuation.

We are looking for an Applied Science Manager to build and deliver cutting-edge science and engineering solutions to improve discovery of digital products and services. You'll lead the team in solving critical discovery problems using ML and Science. Ex: Recommending a book format; understanding the digital shopping mission of the customer; using LLM to generate personalized widget titles; using LLM to build Q&A chatbots for developer productivity; building metrics to measure economic value for a digital business.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will manage a team of scientists and engineers with backgrounds in machine learning, statistics, and economics to identify bottlenecks in digital business, conceive new ideas to overcome those challenges, and deploy scientific solutions in partnership with product teams. The team's responsibilities include developing and maintaining the scientific models, benchmarks, and services. You will also be responsible for maintaining a high bar for scientific model development and engineering excellence within the team.

Amazon Digital Acceleration powers ordering, subscriptions, and device management for Prime, Amazon Video, Music, Audible, Alexa, and Kindle, amongst other digital businesses. We process billions of digital purchases every year and enable our digital businesses to grow their businesses worldwide. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 4+ years of applied research experience

- 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience

- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics

- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
