Amazon Search is looking for an Applied Scientist to build the next-generation Autocomplete and Spelling Correction experience. Autocomplete provides real-time suggestions as customers type in the search box. It serves as a virtual assistant on customer's shopping journey. Our suggestions complete customers' thoughts and help them to explore Amazon's vast product offering. Spelling correction recovers the spelling errors in the queries, allowing customers to search effortlessly in any language they prefer, without worrying about making spelling mistakes. You will have the opportunities to leverage the latest developments in Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning to re-invent customers' shopping experience. Your work will touch the life of hundreds of millions customers and deliver billion-dollar business impact.

As an applied scientist, you will
Drive the science vision and roadmap.
Develop data-driven solutions for the real-world, large scale problems.
Deliver and maintain software and models in the production environment.
Lead cross-functional collaborations between product, design, and engineering.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
