Job Description
The Stowe Family YMCA's aquatics director, full time, non-exempt position, plays a vital role in supporting the YMCA's mission of strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position involves overseeing all operations and ensuring the safety of our indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, including the indoor pool, future/seasonal outdoor Water Park, and Safety Around Water programs. The director is also responsible for managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs and fostering a welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined cause-centered culture.
Hourly Compensation for Non-Exempt Role: $20-$25/hour

Qualifications
- Minimum age of 21
- Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience required
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing aquatics programming or pool management.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Current Lifeguard certification required; Lifeguard Instructor certification must be obtained within sixty days of hiring.
- CPO certification must be obtained within sixty days of hiring.
- Completion of YMCA aquatics management training within 60 days of hire
Essential Functions
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and leading all aquatic staff, including lifeguards, swim instructors, and water exercise class instructors.
- Monitors daily pool operations to ensure proper pool maintenance by adhering to all federal, state, and local laws and YMCA aquatic safety standards.
- Ensures that all required records are maintained and accurate.
- Responsible for conducting aquatic programs such as Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid training, group and private swim lessons, and ensuring all staff follow national YMCA safety standards.
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs by supervising existing programs such as Safety Around Water and establishing new programming that aligns with the GCY strategic plan to expand existing program offerings to meet the needs of our members and community.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Ensures aquatic staff certifications are kept current.
- Conducts monthly in-service training for lifeguards and aquatic quick checks to close gaps related to safety standards.
- Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the area of responsibility.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Responsible for managing the aquatics department budget and payroll.
- Develops and monitors the aquatics department budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiles program statistics to monitor and evaluate the program's effectiveness and participation.
- Manages schedules and creates schedules for all aquatics areas and programming within the branch.
- Ability to establish, collaborate, and maintain positive relationships with staff, members, volunteers, schools, and the general public.
- Assist with fundraising efforts and special events.
- Participate and contribute to Aquatics Cabinet and other staff meetings as assigned.
- Proficient in computer usage, including operating systems, Microsoft Office, and email communication/management.
