Duties

  • Serves as the Sales Manager located in the Firearms and Sporting Goods department and is responsible for effective sales management practices within an assigned retail area or category. Leads by example to: shape and sustain a working environment conducive to the successful performance of those entrusted to his/her leadership and direction; and creating a positive atmosphere and culture within Business Operations and its constituent branches that reflect the pride, professionalism, sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, collaborative engagement, well-being, and whole-hearted customer focus of its employees. Reports to the Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager, or Marine Mart Manager.
  • Responsible for personal and department sales goals. Supervises all sales and merchant activities throughout the assigned retail area or category. Works with the Operations Manager to ensure proper scheduling, staffing coverage and training of team members within the assigned sales area.
  • Plans and executes all corporate service and sales programs, product promotions and other events. Proactively identifies opportunities to resolve customer problems and concerns. Follows up with customers to ensure their problems are resolved. Communicates any outstanding problem resolution issues with the Experience Manager. Understands and articulates all MCX value stories, programs and promotions. Strongly promotes the cultivation of MCX corporate culture, mission and core values at the store level and engages with all leaders and associates through conversations, modeling behaviors, supporting store team-centric initiatives and driving team member satisfaction.
  • Takes advantage of all training opportunities to develop selling skills in product categories. Works with team members to develop their product knowledge within the category. Remains committed to learning about the brands and products that we sell within the store. Educates customers on product questions and provides suggestions when needed. Relays customer comments and concerns to Store Manager.
  • Partners with the Brand Integrity representative, Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager on upcoming floor sets, visual displays and planogram planning. Becomes an active partner to the Brand Integrity representative during floor sets and floor changes. Ensures assigned sales area is merchandised to brand standards with proper product placement. Communicates product outs to Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager. Identifies opportunities to produce add-on sales through consultative and suggestive selling processes. Ensures all sale, ad and promotional items are signed and placed according to brand standards. Ensures all product displays and planograms are signed and labeled according to brand standards. Identifies and reduces all risks of loss and/or theft. Actively engages in organizational training opportunities that develop personal and professional skills related to: time management, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, career planning, public speaking and small group leadership.
  • Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, scheduling, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; completing performance reviews and signing timecards; training employees. Must be alert to alcohol abuse, and take appropriate action. Assists in developing and ensuring the implementation and control of an adequate, effective and appropriate training plan for all personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BACHELORS DEGREE from an accredited college or university in a related field appropriate to work of the position, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR THREE YEARS of practical experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. Experience working within a sales/selling environment required. One year of experience working in a supervisory role within a sales/selling environment is preferred. Advanced selling skills and techniques and product merchandising skills required. Ability to train operating standards and procedures for service, service recovery, sales leadership and store brand as well as work within the position to execute these standards properly and coach others within the team to do so with a high degree of skill and confidence. Ability to work in a high-performance atmosphere with commitment to service goals. Ability to multi-task with high quality follow-up and holding teams accountable to results. Strong working knowledge of business processes, controls and system development. Attention to detail is required.

FOR POSITIONS INVOLVING FIREARMS/AMMUNITION ONLY: This is a covered position for the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act for Department of the Navy civilian personnel. Due to contact with firearms, or ammunition in accomplishing work, DD Form 2760 certifying whether or not a qualifying conviction for a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence has occurred MUST be completed. The continuing obligation to notify the immediate supervisor of any qualifying conviction through completion of DD Form 2760 is REQUIRED. Ability to successfully obtain/maintain a Tier 3 background investigation.
