Job Summary

The University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is hiring an innovative and dynamic Artificial Intelligence and Automation Center of Excellence Specialist to join our diverse team of professionals dedicated to advancing education and research. In this role, you will report to the Director of Operational Effectiveness in LSA Technology Services and you play a key role in leading AI initiatives and implementations across the college. Salary Range - $95,400 - $119,300.

ABOUT THE JOB

Are you passionate about advancing artificial intelligence and driving innovation? Join us in a pivotal new role as the Lead of the Generative Artificial Intelligence and Automation Center of Excellence at the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA).

At LSA, you will immerse yourself in a vibrant academic environment where you will spearhead AI initiatives and be the catalyst for technological advancements across the College of LSA. This is more than just a technical role; you will inspire and encourage adoption of cutting-edge AI technologies, ensuring that our staff can leverage these innovations to their fullest potential.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and Innovate: Lead and Innovate: You will spearhead the development, coordination, and implementation of AI projects focused on administrative applications. Your visionary leadership will guide departments through the complexities of automation, ensuring that LSA remains at the forefront of AI applications within higher education administration.
  • Collaborate Across Departments: Partner with business process improvement teams and work closely with colleagues across LSA to identify opportunities for automating routine tasks and optimizing administrative workflows. Your efforts will enhance operational efficiency and enable strategic reallocation of resources.
  • Engage and Empower: Serve as the go-to consultant and mentor for staff, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. You will encourage the community to embrace new technologies, ultimately leading to improved service outcomes.
  • Service and Outreach: Drive initiatives that use AI to improve community engagement and collaboration. Your work will expand the effectiveness and reach of the College's service-oriented projects. In addition, you will partner and advocate for the use of tools developed by U-M Information and Technology Services (ITS).

Required Qualifications*

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, a closely related field is required, or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading and managing technology-driven innovation or automation projects in a complex organizational environment.
  • Extensive experience with the strategic implementation of technological solutions and process improvements in a collaborative setting.
  • Proven ability to establish and direct new initiatives, with a track record of successful innovation and project delivery.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership aptitude, with the ability to inspire and guide multi-disciplinary teams towards achieving strategic objectives.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, adept at identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Excellent project management competence, capable of overseeing numerous projects with varying complexity, ensuring alignment with overarching goals.
  • Sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively navigate the dissemination of strategic visions and complex ideas to a broad audience.
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth with a focus on emergent technologies and their potential applications in an academic setting.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and external partners.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior experience creating and leading a center of excellence across a distributed organization is preferred
  • Appreciable understanding of academic or similar institutional operations and the impact of technology and automation on these environments.
  • Recognized engagement in relevant professional networks, reflecting a commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with industry trends.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in meeting the evolving technological needs of a dynamic higher education institution.
  • Experience in higher education or a comparable environment engaged with process automation and technological advancements is highly desired.

Modes of Work

Additional Information

WORK HOURS/LOCATION

We will not work you to tears, burn you out, or make you choose between work and important family events. Our goal is for you to maintain a healthy relationship between life and work. Most of our team works 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Our team does not typically work late, work weekends, or have to come in early. Your work will be predictable and adjustable.

This position qualifies for a hybrid work arrangement, based on LSA's current model. Staff are expected to work on-campus at least 3 days per week.
