The University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) Intercollegiate Athletics Department is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Performance Coach. This is a full-time, contract position with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletic Performance, the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach will assist in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and management of the athletic performance program(s) provided to his/her assigned teams/student-athletes. Incumbent will provide leadership, education, instruction and program support in the areas of performance training: strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning and recovery. Coordinate all aspects of day to day performance training procedures and operations for assigned teams/student-athletes. Collaborate with sport coach and athletic trainer to design and implement year-round training programs.

Job expectations include:
  • Comply with all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), University of California, Conference and NCAA rules, regulations and policies;
  • Attend all required Athletic Department meetings / trainings throughout the year;
  • Adhere to the operational guidelines outlined in the AP Coaches Manual; Implement training methodology under the AP Training Philosophy guidelines outlined in the AP Coaches Manual;
  • Use AP Department programming, testing, and athlete management tool(s) to deliver programs, evaluate and track performance and performance data for all assigned team(s)/student-athlete(s);
  • Personally administer programs to your team(s)/student-athlete(s) on a consistent basis;
  • Communicate with team(s)/ student-athlete(s) using DIA platform - Teamworks;
  • Communicate weekly with the ATC assigned to your team and participate in all performance meetings;
  • Communicate weekly with your sport coaches regarding all aspects of assigned team(s) performance training and student athlete health, performance and wellness.


All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities:
  • Effective August 1st, 2015, NCAA legislation mandates that only certified personnel can coach athletes unsupervised, therefore, CSCS or CSCCA certification is required;
  • Excellent group presentation skills to diverse populations;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches, professionals and administrators;
  • Skill in negotiating ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and/or arrive jointly at decisions and solutions;
  • Skill at working as part of a team;
  • Skill at managing shifting priorities and changing pace of workload;
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse student-athletes and staff; Ability to critically review the professional literature on sport performance and sports science; Knowledge of and ability to use various Microsoft computer programs, Outlook email and calendaring, Teamworks and Smartabase athlete management platform and the Internet;
  • Skill at working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction;
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow UCLA DIA, University of California, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.


Preferred qualifications include:
  • Master's degree in exercise science or related field;
  • 2 years of collegiate coaching experience.
