Position performs responsible technical process control and supervisory work in the daily maintenance of the City's water and/or wastewater infrastructure. Provides for the proper functioning of the facilities. Acts as Chief Plant Operator in the absence of Chief.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.   1. Oversees operations, maintenance and repair of all facility equipment and processes. Supervises and assigns staff; ensures for the safety and proper operation of equipment; provides or performs preventative maintenance and repairs, or replacement of equipment, as needed.
  2. Maintains and operates treatment facility equipment including pumps, motors, laboratory equipment, chemical injection systems, blowers, and other equipment essential to operations.
  3. Attends training sessions to obtain credits necessary to maintain a valid New Hampshire water or wastewater operator's license and to remain current on new developments in the industry.
  4. Maintains quality treated water or wastewater, with chemicals and procedures, to ensure compliance with State and EPA guidelines.
  5. Corresponds with customers, municipal, state, and federal officials and consultants regarding system facilities and operations.
  6. Administers employee safety programs and training, enforces all regulations, laws and applicable labor contracts.
  7. Performs administrative duties for division; maintains records and data; develops record and report forms.
  8. May prepare and submit monthly reports according to city, state, and federal requirements.
  9. Identifies, documents and schedule all preventative maintenance repairs.
  10. Is on call in the operator on-call rotation and is also available for emergencies.
  11. Orders and maintains adequate inventory and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
  12. Establishes and maintains necessary tools and equipment to perform duties.
  13. Maintain maintenance logbook. Ensure all station log books and daily sheets are current.
  14. Responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of tool rooms, equipment storage area, garages and maintenance trucks.
  15. Works on special projects and pilot projects in an effort to enhance plant operations; works with engineering firms on plant or equipment upgrades.
  16. Assists the Chief Plant Operator in the development and implementation of policies.
  17. Develops and oversees the implementation of standard operating procedures.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -
A candidate for this position must have graduated from high school, or equivalent (GED) . An Associate's Degree in Environmental Science , Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred. Five (5) years of experience in the operations and maintenance of a water and/or wastewater treatment facility or related field. Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Qualifying education experience may count for some of this exper ience.

Hold a current New Hampshire Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Grade III license (or the equivalent from another state) . Obtaining additional certification or licensing may be required .
