General Notes

Assistant Coach, Associate Head Coach, or Head Coach title may be offered based on the candidate that is hired. Additional hours will be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours. Travel may be required.

Purpose

To provide technical and professional supervision of student-athletes for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate Men's Basketball program through the utilization of scientifically based principles of athletic performance training to optimize athletic performance and decrease injury potential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and supervise the University of Texas Men's Basketball year-round player performance training regimen (post season and offseason program, summer program, pre-season practices program, and in-season program). Design, instruct, supervise, and provide technical assistance in speed, strength, agility, and conditioning programs for Texas Men's Basketball. Assist with teaching proper weightlifting, speed, agility, and conditioning techniques. Develop testing protocols to determine the effectiveness of strength and condition programming and maintain accurate records of progress. Implement training sessions that are exercise-science based and physiologically representative of sport, intentionally administered, appropriately monitored, irrespective of the phase of training, and not punitive in nature.
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding athletic performance/strength and conditioning programming following transition periods. Incorporate accepted best practices, align with interassociation consensus recommendations and guidelines, and minimize risk factors by adhering to industry safety standards.
  • Assist with all facets of the Texas Men's Basketball program operations, including but not limited to team travel, logistics, practice planning, on-campus recruiting, housing, game day operations, and office management, and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Men's Basketball.
  • Collaborate and work collaboratively with Athletics performance team members (e.g., athletic trainers, sports dietitians, sports scientists, etc.) Assist in the implementation of reconditioning programs following injury/illness prescribed by the Sports Medicine personnel. Collaborate and work cooperatively with the Head Coach, Athletic Performance, WBB.
  • Comply with University, NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules and regulations. Comply with general department policies regarding facility use requests, compliance, purchasing, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer and Head Coach/Director of Olympic Sports Athletic Performance. Drive a UT and/or personal rental vehicle on and off campus.

Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Current CSCCa/SCCC or NSCA/CSCS certification. Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification OR must complete this certification within the first 10 days of employment. Two years of experience as a strength & conditioning coach. Experience as a strength & conditioning coach in Basketball. Two years of experience designing strength & conditioning programs. Demonstrated experience following instructions and taking direction. Excellent time management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in related field. Current CSCCa Master Strength & Conditioning Coach certification. More than two years of experience designing and implementing periodized strength and conditioning programs. Experience as a strength & conditioning coach in college or professional basketball.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
