DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Warren College Dean of Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs is a College and campus-wide leader responsible for developing programs, initiatives and services for the growth, needs, and well-being of undergraduate students, as well as building inclusive co-curricular opportunities in which students can belong, develop, and thrive. The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs provides leadership and supervision for a team of College Student Affairs professionals who collectively offer comprehensive orientation and transition programming for new students, develop vibrant College co-curricular experiences for all students, and build engaging student leadership opportunities. The Assistant Dean supervises the Coordinator of Student Activities and the Program Assistant. Other responsibilities include: ensuring that student organizations and programs meet the needs of Warren students; advises the Warren College student government; develops and implements leadership programs; counsels students, and administers discipline under the direction of the Dean; and acts for the Dean in their absence. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. A demonstrated understanding of national trends and best practices in student leadership and development theories, models and philosophies, as well as the ability to effectively organize learning opportunities that are consistent with stages of student development.
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Ability to assess and mediate individual and group conflicts using basic counseling skills that include, but are not limited to, listening, reflecting, and summarizing.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting in sensitive situations with individuals from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and skill in making sound independent judgement, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor, and promoting civil and professional communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in staffing practices, including goal setting, supervision, recruitment, hiring, training, motivation, and evaluation of staff and student employees.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of student needs and concerns. The ability to research, evaluate, assess, and find solutions for changing student needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively, efficiently, and effectively with a wide range of constituents, including students, family members, staff, and faculty.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, group, cross-cultural communication, and leadership skills. The ability to lead and to promote leadership among diverse student populations, and to facilitate effective group activities.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating creative, successful, well attended social, cultural and educational programs, activities and events.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to meet deadlines, to work effectively individually and as part of a team, and to remain flexible in a strong service and results oriented environment while providing imagination and creative solutions. Demonstrated strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to handle multipletasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. A working knowledge of assessment strategies, including student learning outcomes.
  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Knowledge and skill in the management and administration of budgets, personnel, and facilities. Skill in using resources effectively. Skilled in problem solving and decision making that represents the best interests of the institution, and the students it serves.
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and apply university policies and procedures, in consultation with higher level professionals and/or management.
  • Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Demonstrated level of commitment to regularly update and maintain technology skills.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $58,600 - $100,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.07 - $48.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
