Department Summary

UNT at Frisco is a branch of the University of North Texas located in Frisco, TX with the purpose of supporting the exponential population growth projected in Collin County and the greater North Texas region. UNT at Frisco is the second home to 42+ academic departments from 7 different academic colleges at UNT that provide courses to support undergraduate and graduate student progression to graduation in the 16 undergraduate and 10 graduate degree programs offered in Frisco.

Position Overview

The Assistant Dean position manages and directs staff who manage campus-level data, scheduling, and program execution and excellence. The position evaluates relevant data to recommend program offerings in Frisco, to engage in scheduling as an enrollment strategy, to advocate for academic and program-level support as needs arise and evolve, and develops and implements a campus retention plan that considers program offerings as a holistic enterprise (marketing, course rotation, programming, advising, and other supports required for success) in collaboration with the soon-to-be-established student-facing academic Program Director and our student services team in Frisco.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years' of closely related professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in related field and 8 years of closely related professional experience; experience in advising, enrollment (registrar/scheduling or admissions), and accreditation are preferred, but any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will work.
• Extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
• Extensive knowledge of Texas rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
• Requires knowledge of and willingness to use qualitative and quantitative data, as it pertains to higher education, retention, and institutional effectiveness, including the creation of outcomes, assessment methods and instruments (as needed), as well as data analysis, and utilization of reporting results.

Job Duties:
  • 20% - Professional Collaboration: - Cultivates and maintains relationships with appropriate stakeholders. Represents the branch campus on committees and to university units (including Administration, Admissions, Registrar, Advising Services, etc.) and divisions as needed for creative, collaborative problem-solving and innovative developments. - Works with various stakeholders and serves on appropriate committees to achieve department and university goals and ensure effective and efficient operations and implementation of policy and practice (e.g., UNTF Advisors meetings, internal advisory board, UNTF graduate council, etc.). - Cultivates and maintains relationships with appropriate stakeholders including but not limited to colleges, departments, and other advisors; UNT at Frisco administrators, faculty, and advisors; UNT System and facilities and space management; key personnel in the Division of Enrollment; and the UNT at Frisco Student Services team. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Administration & Processes: - Directs or designs and implements a variety of processes, systems, and resources relevant to UNT at Frisco to meet campus and system-wide strategic initiatives. - Offers guidance and direction to direct reports, stakeholders, and collaborators on more complex issues. - Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area. - Oversees the development, revisions, and administration of policies, procedures and processes that affect the programs and scheduling for the UNT at Frisco campus. - Ensures that university leadership and the campus community comply with relevant and applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. - Directs all UNT at Frisco scheduling (currently at 370+ sections per semester), including strategic implementation of complementary programs and minors to effect scheduling stability, student success, and program growth; individual oversight and approval of each course scheduled or removed from the schedule in Frisco; manual assignment of classrooms for each course; coordination with all UNT academic units for implementation, maintenance, and logistical support of program and course offerings; maintenance of updated classroom records with respect to technology, condition, and suitability for specific classes and events; and development of class schedules that incorporate new programs regularly and allow for enrollment growth while minimizing student class conflicts (e.g., scheduling courses for the same program consecutively or at the same time of day each day to increase enrollment). - Develops appropriate assessments and metrics for tracking and evaluating scheduling success, including but not limited to course enrollments. - Evaluates data regularly to ensure ongoing improvement. complementary programs and minors to effect scheduling stability, student success, and program growth; individual oversight and approval of each course scheduled or removed from the schedule in Frisco; manual assignment of classrooms for each course; coordination with all UNT academic units for implementation, maintenance, and logistical support of program and course offerings; maintenance of updated classroom records with respect to technology, condition, and suitability for specific classes and events; and development of class schedules that incorporate new programs regularly and allow for enrollment growth while minimizing student class conflicts (e.g., scheduling courses for the same program consecutively or at the same time of day each day to increase enrollment). - Develops appropriate assessments and metrics for tracking and evaluating scheduling success, including but not limited to course enrollments. - Evaluates data regularly to ensure ongoing improvement. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Strategic Thinking: - Leverages and maintains campus data (qualitative and quantitative) in accordance with desired outcomes of the institution and other UNT divisions we collaborate with in the service of implementing positive changes over time and improving the student experience. - Provides accurate and timely reporting and makes strategic recommendations for improving academic processes, program execution, student engagement and retention, increasing enrollment and program offerings through collaboration with other UNT units and colleges, more effective course scheduling, and other enhancements to faculty, staff, and student service that positively impact retention and success for all of these stakeholders. - Balances current needs with future-oriented planning and development. - (Essential)
