Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Aquatics Assistant Director’s primary responsibility is to assist in the direction of all aspects of the B.R. Ryall YMCA swim instruction programs (excluding the swim team) and lifeguard activities. This role assists the Aquatics Director in ensuring that all B.R. Ryall YMCA swim instruction programs and activities are of the highest quality and conducted in a safe environment for all participants.

Qualifications

1. Age Requirement - 18 years.

2. 3+ years of experience in supervisory role in swim instruction, preferred.

3. Certification requirements include: Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer or CPR/AED for lifeguards, First Aid, Pool Operator - preferred

4. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.

5. Must have good interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations.

6. Strong oral and written skills with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

7. Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment.

8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

9. MUST be able to work a varied schedule that includes early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Essential Functions

1. Under direction of the Aquatics Director, creates and schedules all lifeguards and swim instructors, as well as all aquatics programming.

2. Assists in the implementation of strategies for the swim instruction and aquatics classes focused on increasing participation and skill level of those participating.

3. Promotes program and membership enrollment in aquatics programs with existing and potential members and program participants.

4. Builds relationships with swim families to ensure the swim instruction program is meeting the needs of our membership and program participants.

5. Responsible for the overall safety of all individuals that enter the aquatics area. Able to respond to safety and emergency situations in an effective, efficient manner.

6. Responds to member and community inquiries and comments in a professional, timely manner.

7. Helps to train, evaluate and supervise lifeguards and swim instructors. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete as well as provide ongoing training.

8. Follow all child abuse prevention protocols and policies relating to screening, onboarding, training, supervision and mandated reporting requirements.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications

3+ years of experience in supervisory role in swim instruction, preferred.
