What You'll Do
  • The Assistant Director will project manage a small number (2-3) of complex grant applications or projects each year that will grow the department's operations and goals.
  • You will connect funders to faculty and staff at Michigan Medicine, supporting their work developing proposals.
  • You will manage a portfolio of 15-25 foundations and corporations.
  • Promote communications from the department among Michigan Medicine?s Development team.
  • Research funders, to inform faculty and improve the team's understanding of corporations and foundations.
  • Develop relationships with and proposals for corporate partners, such as events sponsorships or grants for specific philanthropic programs.
  • Request for Proposal circulation is a task all members of the team undertake, including the Assistant Director.
  • You will stay current on industry trends, best practices for research and latest opportunities for CFR.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years working as part of a business development team, in an academic environment, for a non-profit or public service organization or as part of a fundraising team.
  • You can apply research tools to understand the giving history of a corporation or foundation.
  • You can successfully manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive requests.
  • The capability to excel in a complex matrix environment with finesse and an appreciation for differences among partners and colleagues.

Desired Qualifications*
  • The three most desired qualities you will have: 1) experience with project management 2) a passion to be a good writer and editor and 3) an unquenchable curiosity.
  • Either CFR or grants management experience.
  • A capacity to analyze data.
  • Experience working in higher education or within a complex healthcare environment.

Work Locations

The onsite location for this position is an office suite at the 777 Building. This provides free, on-site parking for staff.

You will be in a flexible, hybrid position. You will need to live in a commutable distance to the office with the expectation of working in the office 3 days a week, except while traveling on university business. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on our needs.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
