Job Summary:
International Student Services (ISS) seeks a dynamic and versatile leader to provide oversight of operations for the shared International Services suite. International Services combines support provided by ISS and International Faculty & Staff Services (IFSS), which includes the International Community Center (ICC), Lactation and Family Wellness suite, Multifaith Prayer and Meditation Room, and the front desk and lobby area.

In addition to leading the International Services operations on behalf of student and faculty and staff communities, this individual will supervise and cultivate a team of 8-10 student peer advisors committed to inclusive advising practices and engagement opportunities for international students, scholars, faculty, staff, and their accompanying dependents. The peer advising team provides frontline interactive services to all visitors to the International Services suite and administrative and advising support to ISS and IFSS staff.
This individual is also a member of the International Leadership Team (ILT) contributing to ISS?s strategic priorities and elevating operation needs and concerns. ILT serves advisor-on-call rotation and provides guidance in complicated immigration advising cases. This role also convenes monthly International Services Leadership Team (ISLT) meetings with assistant, associate, and directors of ISS and IFSS.
This position reports to the ISS director and Principal Designated School Official (PDSO). ISS serves over 7,000 F/J nonimmigrant students and over 1,000 alumni on post-completion employment authorization. IFSS serves over 2,000 employees in a variety of employment-based categories (J-1, H-1B, TN, PERM, etc.). We utilize Terra Dotta ISSS batch software to maintain F/J international student compliance and communications.
Responsibilities: Manages a program and/or programmatic activities. Initiates, develops, and implements operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives. May supervise staff and/or approve unit expenditures.
  • 10% Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
  • 25% Identifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • 35% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
  • 5% Leads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
  • 5% May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expenditures
Tasks:
  • Manage International Services space operations and virtual services for department of 30 and stakeholder population of approximately 15,000.
  • Coordinate multi-modal interactive customer service delivery, scheduling, support, and feedback to International Services; regularly assess service delivery.
  • Participate on ISS Leadership Team (ILT); convene Int'l Services LT; represent ISS director on committees related to F/J inclusive advising and supervision strategies across campus.
  • Participate in regular ISS staff and advising check-in meetings and IS Staff Dialogue Series.
  • Provide support to campus departments, represent ISS at meetings, and collaborate for greater international student support and inclusion.
  • Support inclusive engagement and communication with emphasis on Plain Language and equity in access for international students.
  • Process immigration document updates and requests for all F/J students during peak periods.
  • Provide back-up support to international student advisors via appointments, drop-in advising, Terra Dotta Information Request, phone, and email.
  • Supervise and cultivate a student team dedicated to inclusive advising practices and engagement opportunities for students and provide administrative and advising support to International Services staff.
  • Serve as primary contact for WiGROW for intentional student employee interaction and development.
  • Develop comprehensive training materials to promote inclusive and consistent advising support of Tier 1 advising services at the front desk.
  • Manage ISS workflow assignments in Terra Dotta; inform leadership team of trends, statistics, resource needs.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for Pyle Center building services, UWPD neighborhood officer; develop and maintain Safety Operations Manual.
  • Develop, manage, and execute purchasing budget for shared operations and student employees, in coordination with ISS director.

Education:
Required
Bachelor's degree in international relations, global education, higher education, computer sciences, data analytics, or related field; master's degree preferred
Qualifications:
Required skills/qualifications
Minimum one year experience supervising professional and/or graduate student staff
Knowledge of student identity development and student-centered advising practice
Demonstrated experience solving complex problems in legal and cross-cultural contexts
Demonstrated commitment to social justice education and inclusive engagement
Demonstrated cross-cultural competency and written/verbal communication skills for diverse and multilingual audiences
Customer service experience in a fast-paced environment with competing demands which required problem solving of complex requests
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Position requires proof of U.S. citizenship/legal permanent residence to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), per Department of Homeland Security.

Preferred skills/qualifications
Minimum one year of professional and progressively more responsible experience in the field of higher education F/J international student services as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
Demonstrated technical experience with Terra Dotta ISSS software and PeopleSoft Student Information System
Experience with Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis and reporting
Ability to negotiate with stakeholders to advance the needs and priorities of International Services and its clientele
Experience living, working, or studying abroad
Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English
Understanding of large research-intensive higher education settings with strong shared-governance traditions
Participation and/or leadership in professional development organizations related to international student advising, international education, or supervision and management
