Description

Manages the day-to-day operations of a large university program or department, including the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.
  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a large or complex department or program.
  2. Manages fiscal activities, including procurement and budget analysis.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  4. Prepares abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Creates and reviews reports of expenditures and activities.
  6. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  7. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  8. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors and 1 year experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

Job Summary/Additional Duties:

Housed within Retention and Graduation Initiatives, this position serves as the Assistant Director of New Student Orientation Programs for new students and their family members and supporters.
  • Works in collaboration with the Director and two Associate Directors in designing, implementing and administering new student programs
  • Assists with orientation planning and program implementation, specifically responsible for scheduling, logistics, and reservations, for both in-person and virtual events
  • Manages event and student data in orientation software and campus information systems
  • Assists with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and ongoing evaluation of 60+ Orientation Leaders.
  • Supports departmental marketing and communication efforts through management of email communications, website, social media, webchats, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining departmental inventory of supplies.
  • May prepare or participate in the creation of operations and procedure manuals, presentation materials, publications, and other written materials and documentation.
  • Assists with development of departmental evaluation and assessment activities.
  • May serve on university committees and/or special projects as needed.


Evening and weekend hours required.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following:
  • Direct Higher Education experience
  • Utilization of student information management platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to clearly interpret and implement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent public speaking, verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field and two years of experience specifically working in the areas of New Student Orientation, Admissions, and/or Enrollment Services.
  • Direct experience with PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups in a public setting, as a representative of an institution/organization.
  • Experience working with student residential life and housing, specifically with new student orientation groups staying overnight on campus. Ability to manage late night on-call process and risk management responses.
  • Experience coordinating and organizing events.
