This is an exciting opportunity to join a nationally recognized development team that values innovation, collaboration, and accountability and is dedicated to the university’s & division’s mission.

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming and working in collaboration with University Advancement colleagues, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement Programming will play a pivotal role in engaging and cultivating strong relationships with over 100,000 UNCW alumni. Under the guidance of the Director, this position will assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and initiatives tailored to UNCW alumni, fostering a sense of community, philanthropy, and lifelong connection to the university in alignment with CASE Insights on Alumni Engagement.

This role works collaboratively with the events, annual giving, and communication teams to support the overall strategic plan of the University Advancement division.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement best practices.
  • Knowledge of UNCW practices and procedures regarding business transactions and the ability to implement them appropriately.
  • Experience/proficiency using software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Banner Finance, Chrome River, Raiser’s Edge, and other development-related software.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute events and programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse constituencies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in program development, event planning, and volunteer management.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Division for University Advancement is responsible for the following primary goals:
  • Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raise philanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission of the university.
  • Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serve and engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates and donors.
  • Strengthen and expand UNCW’s donor pipeline through effective discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Ensure that external boards ( UNCW Foundation Board, Board of Visitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Friends of UNCW ) are effective in their mission of supporting UNCW .


  • The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with the campus community as well as external constituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporate and foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumni engagement. Prospect development, events and board management, stewardship, communications and advancement services are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.
