Assistant Director of Facilities and Transportation

Summary: The Assistant Director of Facilities and Transportation is responsible for managing the day-to-day details of all of SSFSs transportation needs - from bus routes, to field trips and charters. As Assistant Director of Facilities, this person will also act as the right-hand to the Director of Facilities, including assigning and monitoring tasks and managing team members. The ideal candidate will excel at coordinating tasks, maintaining schedules, and ensuring efficient operations. May require some evening and weekend hours. This position reports to the Director of Facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the transportation operations and logistics within the School.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school's transportation system, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels between the families, school administration and bus companies to address concerns, provide updates, and gather feedback
  • Collaborate with the Admission team to align transportation services with enrollment needs
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with transportation service providers to ensure reliable and high-quality services
  • Responsible for the physical plant operations, including all buildings and grounds, utilities, energy management systems, and safety/security systems to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students, faculty, and staff
  • Work closely with all the facilities staff while directly supervising daily operations, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and event set-ups
  • Plan and schedule daily work and special projects; maintain records and coordinate all work with the assistance of SchoolDude
  • Plan, organize, and complete work orders, projects, and preventive maintenance functions
  • Manage compliance for life and safety, elevators, backflow preventers, emergency generators, lead water testing, asbestos, radon, MSDS, energy consumption, and other state and federal requirements
  • Contribute to the overall success of the facilities department by performing all other duties
Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of experience in a facilities management or transportation supervisor position, preferably in a K-12 school setting.
  • Bachelors Degree is preferred
  • Valid Maryland drivers license and valid Maryland Commercial Drivers License for School Bus (Class B, P-Passenger and S-School Bus Endorsements) required
  • Effective communicator with the ability to read, write, and speak sufficiently to perform all duties of the position
  • Proficiency using Google suite and/or similar business applications.
Essential Physical Requirements: This is a physical position requiring but not limited to the following: Ability to navigate a large campus with uneven pavement; sitting 3-5 hours per day; standing 1-3 hours per day; walking 1-3 hours per day; ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds; push/pull greater than 25 pounds; climbing stairs/ladders at a low and high level such as rooftops; moderate bending, squatting and frequent twisting; kneeling, and reaching.
