Job Description

The Assistant Director of Ambulatory Care Services function as a change agent of Bellevue Hospital Center's Management Team by continuously formatting and implementing structures and processes in the provision of patient care in ambulatory are setting.

The Assistant Director is a positive role model, skilled communicator and team player with solid people influencing skills. She/he is skilled at interfacing with physicians, nurses and interdisciplinary forums. She/he has extensive knowledge of the joint Commission, Department of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Systems and other regulatory agencies and familiar with the organization 's policy and procedures.

The Department goals are achieved by developing a dynamic team.

Responsibilities:
  • Interprets, evaluates, and implement Nursing/Patient Care Services and Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with hospital administration, and other disciplines to endure follow-up on nursing issues and coordination of patient care activities.
  • Receive and evaluates reports from Head Nurse/Designee. Offer guidance and direction in solving problems.
  • Plans for adequate daily staff coverage.
  • Plans, recommend, and work collaboratively with Director/Associate Director of Nursing in establishing a plan to motivate staff and develop their skills to improve quality of patient care.
  • Makes unite rounds and educates staff on issues at hand.
  • Enforces established Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
  • Implements current established Performance Improvement Program.
  • Participates and supports all administrative and clinical activities related to preparation for surveys of various regulatory agencies, e.g., special projects on Advance Directives, Restraint Risk Assessment, etc.
  • Acts as a patient advocate, promote patient safety.
  • Covers as necessary weekend, holiday and off tours.
  • Consults with medical staff and professional staff of other departments and staff from associated health care fields to plan and coordinate joint patient and management objectives. Acts as liaison between the department of medical services and other administrative divisions.
  • Provides administrative supervision for program of comprehensive health care services with professional and non-professional staff.
  • Maintains a level of cultural competence.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of interpersonal/team building methods.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
2. Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
