Department Summary

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 8 functional units within the Division of Student Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Division of Student Affairs at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Student Services Assistant Director to join our team. This position aids in the support of students with disabilities receiving academic accommodations and in the oversight of departmental initiatives. This position supervises the Testing Associate position and manages the Testing Center operations. It is responsible for assisting with budget creation and oversight. They oversee programming initiatives for the department. They assist with data collection and the assessment of departmental services. This position acts on behalf of the director when the director is unavailable. This position maintains a case load of students receiving disability accommodations. This position is a hybrid position, working both on campus and remotely, and conducts meetings both in person and via online meeting platforms. This position works out of a shared office space.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate professionally in writing and orally, exceptional organization skills and ability to store confidential information. Ability to prioritize tasks, ability to work effectively with colleagues by demonstrating respect for deadlines, collaborative problem solving, and honest communications. Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions related to departmental functions, Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students. Skill in managing one's own time and the time of others. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines. Ability to make arithmetical computations and tabulations. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports. Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in education, counseling, higher education, psychology, or another related field. At least one year of supervisory experience in a higher education setting. At least three (3) years of prior experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting. Knowledge of disability law as it applies to higher education. Experience with Microsoft products. Deep knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Job Duties:
  • Maintain a case load of students receiving academic accommodations, addressing academic, social, and disability related barriers
  • Provide direct supervision of the Testing Associate position and management of the Testing Center, while providing back-up support for the ODA Testing Associate on exam days
  • Oversee data collection and assessment of the Office of Disability Access services
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders on general and student accessibility needs
  • Assist the Director with budget planning for the office in the budget development process for the Office of Disability Access
  • Provide oversight and support for the Testing Associate on exam days

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends as required for divisional events. Both remote and in office days required each week.
