Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Enrichment Services (SES) reports directly to the Associate Director of SES and is responsible for first-generation, lower income (FGLI), and/or undocumented/DACA student programming. In collaboration with the Associate Director, the Assistant Director will develop programming utilizing research and best practices focused on FGLI student success (including but not limited to research on intersectionality, identity-development, self-efficacy, stereotype threat, and sense of belonging). The Assistant Director will also manage, execute, and assess the Compass Mentorship Program, a cohort-based, year-long peer mentorship program that connects incoming FGLI students with trained 2nd, 3rd, 4th year student mentors. The Assistant Director will also assist with aspects of the Summer Academic Workshop, a pre-enrollment program for incoming FGLI students. SES is one of five units that make up Campus Inclusion and Community (CIC) and provides support to over 1,000 students/year.

Note: Evening and weekend events occur throughout the year.

Workplace Flexibility: This position is eligible to work remotely up to 2 days per week.

Pay Range: The salary range for the Assistant Director of Student Enrichment Services position is $60,000-$62,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Principal Accountabilities:

Events 30%
  • Manages event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
    • Develop programming utilizing research and best practices focused on FGLI student success (including but not limited to research on intersectionality, identity-development, self-efficacy, stereotype threat, and sense of belonging)
    • Facilitate small and large group workshops and events for FGLI students
Program Development 20%
  • Supervises creation of components, including curriculum development, lectures, conferences, seminars, support groups, etc.
    • Provides oversight to the Compass Mentorship Program
      • Supervises Compass Graduate Assistant
      • Supervise 8 Compass Peer Mentors
      • Develop goals for Compass Workshops and support graduate assistant and peer mentors in implementation
      • Develop assessment for Compass
    • Provides oversight to the leadership development of Compass Mentors
      • Develop goals for ongoing training through the academic year
      • Develop curriculum for ongoing training through the academic year including the fall retreat
      • Coordinate logistics associated with the fall retreat
    • Assist with the Summer Academic Workshop (SAW)
      • Coordinate Opening and Closing Events
      • Assist with logistics associated to the recruitment and arrival of SAW participants
      • Lead SAW workshops
      • Support SAW Counselor Training
    • Works in collaboration with Associate Director to develop FGLI programming
      • Build curriculum based on class-year and proven student success models/frameworks
      • Assist with and create outreach programming for FGLI students
    • Oversees the expansion of SES One Form in coordination with the Senior Director and Associate Director of SES.
  • Manages relationships with partners, foundations, etc. and coordinates logistical support
    • Foster purposeful partnerships and serve on various committees within the Division of Student Affairs and across the university, including academic entities, to create interdisciplinary efforts in support of student success and social justice
    • Partner with staff, faculty, and administrators to share trends, provide and receive information, and stay updated on academic and co-curricular resources, supports, programs, and changes.
    • Build relationships across campus and refer mentors and mentees to resources and services
    • Collaborate with SES program assistant to onboard new One Form partners
Student Support 20%
  • Manages recruitment, application evaluation, interview, selection and notification of students or participants.
    • Manage the recruitment and selection of Compass Peer Mentors and SAW Counselors
    • Participate in the recruitment and selection of the Compass GA
    • Recruit and select a SAW GA
    • Recruit and select student to serve as SAW Coordinators
  • Assist with walk-in student inquiries and responding to outreach regarding finding community, identity development, and navigating leadership opportunities
Evaluation 10%
  • Reviews and analyzes outcome measurements and recommends changes and enhancements to improve program/project.
    • Coordinate assessment and evaluation of Compass, SAW and forthcoming project-based work
Communication, Outreach and Recruitment 10%
  • Creates and implements program/project brand identity and marketing and advertising strategy
    • Oversee the marketing for Compass Mentors and SAW Counselors
    • Create and implement student facing communication strategy for SES One Form
  • Ensures that all advertising and marketing materials accurately represent programs
    • Oversee all content being distributed on social media and in newsletters and list serves about the Compass Mentor and SAW Counselor position
    • Develops student facing content about the SES One Form
Budget and Financials 5%
  • Oversees accurate, efficient, and compliant workflow of all transactional processes across areas/units.
    • Manage the Compass Budget of approximately, $115,000
Strategic Planning 5%
  • Provides advice and counsel and recommends changes and improvements to functional operations to better meet organizational needs and objectives.
    • Provide recommendations and improvement for Compass Mentorship program
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years program/project administration or other relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of the educational environment at highly selective institutions
  • Flexibility and comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrated track record as a positive team player with a sense of humor and a commitment to collaboration and integrity
Minimum Competencies:
  • High degree of competence around understanding and interacting with students from a diversity of social identities
  • A strong candidate will have experience with event planning, logistics, facilitation, and assessment
  • The candidate should have demonstrated success in developing student leaders and establish new programs
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Youth Development, Social Work, or other related field OR 4-6 years post undergraduate experience supporting first-generation and/or low-income college students
Preferred Competencies:
  • Knowledge of latest research and theory around first-generation and/or lower-income college students
  • Strong familiarity with critical social theories and models of leadership
  • Proven comprehensive skills to work collegially and collaboratively across campus with academic and administrative areas to achieve goals
