Summary

Responsible for the assisting and supporting the management of Pharmacy operations and personnel, for the development and implementation of Pharmacy policies and procedures and for preparing and dispensing medications and pharmaceutical supplies for inpatients, outpatients, and employees. Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, responsible for the supervision of the Pharmacy personnel, operational decisions and departmental/system guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintaining inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies, ensures proper conditions for refrigerator and security.
  • Assists with / oversight of processes regarding narcotics for the hospital to include investigating and resolving discrepancies of all drugs.
  • Assists with/Prepares work schedules and authorizes overtime and time off.
  • Schedules and provides departmental and hospital personnel in-services as needed.
  • Assist with/Develops and monitors quality assurance procedures, conducts audits, and maintains related documentation.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Assist the Director of Pharmacy by ensuring that the department meets all legal and accreditation/certification requirements.
  • The following duties are representative of the position. Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Assists with/Develops policies and procedures that promote the safe and effective use of drugs in the hospital as well as at a system level as the system leader with OB/Pediatrics/NICU.
  • Supervises drug storage and preparation areas throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or stored.
  • Participates in assigned committees/functions required by the hospital.
  • Assists in implementation of new programs/sites, such as outpatient pharmacy.


Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Doctorate of Pharmacy or grandfathered

Experience

Minimum: 5 years as a pharmacist.

Preferred: 3 years specialty experience in pediatrics/NICU and/or obstetrics.
