MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

NY HELPS

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:

Master's degree AND either:

1. Two years of professional experience in an education agency or organization working with elementary, middle or secondary schools in the provision of technical assistance or in the development or implementation of educational programs or educational grants; OR

2. Possess a New York State permanent or professional certification in classroom teaching, administration and supervision, or school service AND two years of professional experience in a public school teaching common branch subjects in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 6 or teaching academic subjects (English, a language other than English, mathematics, science or social studies) in grades 7-12; OR two years of professional experience working with students in the areas of early childhood and parent education, guidance counseling, school social work, or attendance improvement/dropout prevention.

COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Education Improvement Services position in the Office of Educational Design and Technology. This Office coordinates programs and initiatives that promote the effective integration of technology in educational environments statewide to improve teaching and learning. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in developing, conducting, supporting, and reviewing Department programs which assist schools in improving the delivery of educational services through technology;
• Provide program support for partnerships between and with schools to increase the scope and scale of innovative, technology-enhanced initiatives to improve teaching and learning;
• Provide technical assistance to school districts, local education agencies, regional school support centers, other public or private agencies or professional groups on topics related to educational technology, including but not limited to online, distance, and blended learning; innovative technologies; digital literacy; and personalized learning;
• Assist with the review and evaluation of program and grant applications and/or proposals;
• Assist with creating materials necessary to implement program and Department objectives related to educational technology, including website text, newsletter articles, training and/or informational materials, procedures, presentations, surveys, and/or forms;
• Facilitate meetings, including agenda creation, facilitation, and follow-up notes and materials;
• Provide periodic and final reports (in various formats) on projects that include program status and/or specific recommendations; and
• Other duties related to Office programs as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a contingent permanent, competitive appointment or a contingent permanent non-competitive appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.

Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates.

This position will require over 5% overnight Statewide travel.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $101,197 based on annual performance advances.
