Position Purpose

The Liaison Librarian is responsible for the development and promotion of library activities and services that support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the campus community (i.e., students, faculty, and staff) including, but not limited to teaching of information literacy/research skills in a variety of contexts, developing professional relationships, collaborating effectively with campus partners, and management of collections for UCM curricula and faculty research needs. It is expected that subject liaison librarians actively engage in teamwork, shared governance, and library outreach activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Liaison to the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences:
  • Develop and promote library information resources and services to faculty and students in assigned areas.
  • Teach credit-bearing courses as available and qualifications allow.
  • Teach information literacy to students in assigned areas through embedded librarianship.
  • Initiate and maintain contacts with faculty members in assigned areas for the purpose of curriculum mapping, instructional development, and collection management.
  • Provide research consultations to the UCM community supporting scholarship in a variety of contexts.
  • Create learning tools connecting students and faculty with the information they need.
  • Develop, present, and promote library workshops.
  • Manage collections in assigned areas in all formats, including, but not limited to, the development of the collection, periodic review of collection content, and alignment of the collection to the UCM curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Continue professional development through ongoing education, including understanding trends in academic libraries; participating in conferences, workshops, etc.; being active in regional and national professional organizations.
  • Contribute to the profession through continued learning, services, presentations, or professional communications.
  • Participate in library committees, task forces, working groups, self-governance bodies, and other roles as expected.
  • Participate in library activities, events, and initiatives.
  • Active engagement in UCM activities supporting students, faculty, scholarship, and university-wide governance (e.g. faculty senate committee or administrative committee participation).
Education & Formal Training

Master's degree (Specify field(s) of study below)

Other Education & Formal Training

Master's degree from an ALA -accredited program in library or information science or equivalent degree.

Completion of a second advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in the area of subject specialty or related field from an accredited institution of higher education preferred.

Computer Skills

Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Other - Internet

Experience

One (1) year, full-time equivalent academic library experience including some combined experience in providing research services, instruction (online and in person), developing online instructional tools (e.g., LibGuides, etc.) preferred.

Experience managing collections in the subject liaison area(s) preferred.
