DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to oversee daily operations of the ED.
  • Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
  • Assist in managing staff, ensuring proper resource allocation, and maintaining high quality patient care.
  • Support implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols to enhance department efficiency.
  • Foster positive work environment that promotes a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance efforts within the ED.
  • May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • PALS certification.
  • Four (4) or more years of acute care RN experience; two (2) recent years in the ED.
  • Charge nurse or other formal nursing leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MSN or relevant graduate degree.
  • Relevant nursing certification in relevant area (e.g. CEN, CCRN, NE-BC, etc.).
  • Experience leading clinical staff.
  • Process improvement / Lean Six Sigma experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • This position has both clinical and administrative duties.
  • This position will primarily work day shifts (between 0700-2300).
  • Some weekend shifts are required.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
