Position Summary

The Department of Sociology at the University of Georgia invites applications for two Assistant Professor positions to begin August 1, 2025. For both positions we will consider exceptional candidates at the early Associate Professor level.

The first position is in the area of Criminology. We welcome all substantive interests within this area.

The second position is in the area of Computational Sociology. We welcome all substantive interests within this area, though we prefer candidates doing research in a sphere of concentration within our Department and we are especially interested in scholars studying the sociology of health.

Responsibilities of these positions entail (1) maintaining a robust research program, especially including actively seeking external funding, (2) contributing to excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring, and (3) engaging in service to the university and the profession.

Additional Requirements

Candidates for both positions should be well-grounded in sociological theory.

To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an Associate Professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
