Assistant or Associate Professor of Neurology - Memory Disorder Program
Charlottesville, Virginia
Employer: Virginia Jobs
Industry: Neurology
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time
The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position for its Memory Disorder Program. The Memory Disorders Program is recognized throughout the state and nationally as providing top-notch state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary care and has received federal funding to implement our unique care model.
Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD, DO or other equivalent terminal degree, and be board-certified or board-eligible at the time of hire in Neurology. Fellowship training in dementia, geriatric or behavioral neurology and/or a relevant field of research is preferred. The successful applicant will have a research program or the strong potential of developing an innovative research program. Research focus may be at the bench, translational or clinical in nature. A specific interest in glia and the immune processes in neurodegenerative diseases is preferred because it complements local strengths. The clinical effort is limited to allow a focus on research.
Candidates should be interested in training graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, mentoring K awardees, and medical student and resident teaching. A commitment to and evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups is essential. To be considered for the tenured position, candidates must demonstrate scholarship and excellence in two domains consistent with the requirements for tenure in the School of Medicine.
The successful applicant will join a collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic group of investigators from across the UVA neuroscience community with similar research interests. They will enjoy access to unique shared research facilities in the Department of Neurology and the Center for Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG), including high-resolution single- and multi-photon confocal and light-sheet microscopy, flow cytometry, and behavioral equipment.
The University of Virginia is located east of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, just 30 minutes from Shenandoah National Park and 100 miles south of Washington DC. Charlottesville is considered among the best places to live in the US, with a vibrant arts and music scene, pristine nature, local wineries and breweries, and tons of small-town charm. We will offer a competitive salary, space, and a start-up package.
This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For questions about the position or the application process, please contact Karon Harrington, Recruiter at fak3ph@virginia.edu
