Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine seeks to hire a talented and motivated Assistant Professor in Biostatistics. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's education, research, and clinical missions, with a primary focus on biostatistical methods applied to health-related research. The Assistant Professor in Biostatistics will lead statistical analyses on basic, translational, and clinical research projects.

Job Duties

  • Conduct innovative research in biostatistics with applications to health sciences, including clinical trials.
  • Mentor and advise students in research projects, theses, and dissertations.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the department, across the institution, and with external partners.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees and activities.
  • Provide professional and academic service to the broader scientific community through peer review, conference organization, and professional society involvement.
  • Engage in outreach activities that promote the department's goals and objectives.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical methodologies relevant to biostatistics, such as regression modeling, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, Bayesian statistics, and/or machine learning.
  • Strong programming skills in statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or Python.
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, including effective communication and mentorship skills.
  • A record of scholarly achievement, including publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and presentations at academic conferences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service activities.
