We seek candidates whose research and teaching will address issues in hydrology, with experience in groundwater hydrology and preferably an expressed interest in karst systems, thus taking advantage of UTC's newly acquired cave system. We seek a colleague who will contribute to our BS Geology, BS Environmental Science, and MS Environmental Science degrees in research and teaching.

Requirements for the position include:

  • the ability to establish a successful, extramurally funded research program in hydrogeology,
  • the ability to incorporate GIS in teaching and research,
  • the ability to contribute to the BS and MS Environmental Science programs,
  • the ability to work collegially with students, fellow faculty, and staff,
  • utilize high impact practices in teaching and student engagement per UTC's Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate's application will provide evidence of the following preferred qualifications:

  • develop an independent research program that involves students and attracts extramural funding,
  • develop research plan that takes advantage of the Chattanooga area's rich karst topography and cave systems,
  • provide university, community, and professional service,
  • have plans to contribute to programs that aim to increase participation of underrepresented groups in the sciences,
  • willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals, as specified in UTC's strategic plan.

Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024. To be considered for the position, all applications must include all of the following:

  • a cover letter,
  • a statement of research experience and vision, providing evidence of position requirements,
  • a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, providing evidence of position requirements,
  • a curriculum vitae,
  • all unofficial transcripts, and
  • a list of names, titles, and email addresses for three (3) references for confidential letters of recommendation to be requested at later stages in the search process. At least one reference must be able to comment on teaching ability.

Questions about the position should be directed to Dr. Gretchen Potts, BGE Department Head, Gretchen-Potts@utc.edu. Applications must be submitted electronically through the UTC Faculty Career Site.
